Clover Hill
A Michelin-quality tasting menu, an open kitchen and a bar, all inside 600 square feet.
Clover Hill started with an ambitious premise: fit a Michelin Guide-quality tasting menu into a 600 square foot space.
Awarded a Michelin star in 2022.
01 The assignment
A tasting-menu restaurant needs an open kitchen that can execute at the highest level, a bar, and a dining room comfortable enough for a long meal. Here, all three had to share a footprint most operators would use for a coffee shop.
02 The design response
Every inch was planned. The open kitchen and bar were fitted with incredible care, and furniture was selected to maximise both seat count and comfort. The room reads as warm and settled rather than compressed: tin ceiling, brick, wainscot, a soft banquette and a tight gallery of framed pictures.
03 How it operates
The plan gives the kitchen and bar the space they need to perform while keeping the dining room calm. Sightlines from the seats into the kitchen are part of the experience.
04 Materials and custom elements
Painted brick, pressed-tin ceiling, dark wood wainscot and tabletops, leather banquette seating and bentwood chairs.
