No Kisses

A moody speakeasy entered through a tunnel, under a light feature that covers the entire ceiling.

Washington, DC · Cocktail and wine bar

No Kisses interior under a full-ceiling illuminated grid, with velvet booths and the bar beyond

From the tunnel entrance to the custom light feature covering the entire ceiling, No Kisses is an immersive experience: a moody speakeasy with a lively cocktail programme.

Named one of D.C.'s essential wine bars by Eater.

01 The assignment

Create a bar that feels hidden and immersive from the first step inside, and pair it with an outdoor space flexible enough to earn revenue in every season.

02 The design response

Guests arrive through a brick tunnel. Inside, an illuminated grid ceiling washes the room in shifting colour over dark patterned walls, velvet booths and a compact back bar. A flexible patio functions year-round as a beer garden and as a private event space with a dedicated food truck.

03 How it operates

The patio was planned as a second revenue centre: a beer garden by default, a private event venue on demand, with a dedicated food truck for service.

04 Materials and custom elements

Backlit ceiling panels, patterned wallcoverings, green velvet booths, dark timber, herringbone tile and brass.
